Synopsis
Clara marries Richard, a man from a Boston family with old money, in an arrangement that soon turns sour. Her husband keeps his distance, his relatives look down on her background as new money from New York, and her own son Leo grows hostile toward her. Richard's subordinate Victoria works to deepen the rift.
A tampered family photo becomes the breaking point. Clara gives up the comforts of wealth and walks out of the mansion. Richard, now full of regret, asks her to come back, and even Leo begs her to return. Clara holds firm, choosing to leave her painful past behind and build a life of her own rather than return to the house that hurt her.
