Synopsis
Lana keeps a rare talent secret: she can perceive what cats are thinking. Fearing rejection, she says nothing. She takes a live-in nanny post with the affluent Frank family on the West Coast, hoping to fund studies abroad. On day one, she learns their Ragdoll, Noble, faces terminal kidney failure and is booked for euthanasia. His thoughts tell her he has refused meals because someone laced his cat food with poison.
Lana gambles everything to bring the truth to light. The plot's author turns out to be Sylvia, a contender for an arranged match with Frank. Sylvia flees but keeps coming after Lana. Using a citywide feline information network, Lana survives each attack. She climbs from nanny to a sought-after society figure, and the distant billionaire Frank falls for her. Yet class divides and his aunt Vivian's fierce resistance, even abduction, force Lana to slip away.
