Synopsis

The Mate Claim Ceremony turns against her when Cassian chooses Maris, her sister, and insists he acted only to shield Maris from the Council. He then reaches for the moonstone necklace that belonged to her late mother, intending it for Maris as his Luna. The chain gives way, and whatever patience she still held for him goes with it.

Days later, the Council assigns her to Rowan Vale, heir to the Lycan king and a man said to be dying. Onlookers see only a grim fate awaiting her. Rowan, however, does what no one before him bothered to do: he asks whether she wants this bond of her own will. From there she must weigh a fresh alliance against the betrayal behind her, and decide what she owes the sister who took her place.
