Synopsis

Captain John Carter is framed by his own commander and leaves Earth using a dead man's name. He wakes stranded on Mars, where Thark warriors take him prisoner. His fighting skill earns him freedom in the arena, and there he meets Dejah Thoris, a fugitive princess hiding from a forced marriage to a rival prince.

Carter is drawn into her flight and into a larger struggle. To break the siege closing on her city, he gathers a Thark army and leads it into battle. The enemy then moves against the planet's single air source, and Carter must climb a mile of dead machinery to reach it. The fight clears his name, ends the war, and lets him marry Dejah and remain on Mars.
